Nick was not the kind of boy I had expected to spend my summer with. I was hoping to     have a   21   the summer before my busy senior year, but my mother asked me to do her a   22  . One of her colleagues needed a full-time   23  . ^You planned to volunteer at the local hospital, why not volunteer to   24   Nick instead? ̄ Then she told me that this six-year-old boy was not a   25   child.

Nick was a lovely little boy who suffered from many disorders. Normal day-care centres would not   26   him. As a baby, he had serious ear infections which left him with equilibrium (峠財) problems. He couldn¨t   27   or run properly. I was hesitating (q團)   28   I was to take the job when my mother   29  , ^Don¨t you want to be a nurse in the future? I doubt if you even have the   30  . ̄

Then I told her I was   31   for the job.

The day started at 7:00 a.m. Nick was my wake-up call! With so much energy and very little   32  , he was quite a mix.

At the park, when he saw all the other children play on the jungle gym and swings (拍認) the boy¨s face   33   up ! How he wished he belonged to the group of his age! You would think it would be   34   to get a child to go down a slide (錆杢). Believe me, it wasn¨t! It took time, a lot of time. But with patience and support, Nick took one step up the slide each day. We worked together to face his   35   and gradually he got closer to taking the slide of his life.

Halfway through the summer, he   36   it to the top of the slide. With my arms   37   him tightly, we flew down the slide! I waited for his reaction. After realizing that he was safe and sound, he gave me a big   38   and asked, ^May I go down again, alone? ̄

I had never been happier in my life when I saw this little child climb the ladder and enjoy what other children   39   for granted.

This   40   child taught me that being a nurse means respect, kindness and patience.

Botswana lies immediately to the north of South Africa. It is bordered on the north and west by Namibia, on the north and east by Zimbabwe, and is connected by a narrow strip of land on the northern border to Zambia. Its territory consists almost entirely of a broad, flat, arid subtropical plateau(互圻), though there are hills in the eastern part of the country.

In the northwest, the Okavango River empties into the Kalahari sands, creating the largest inland river delta in the world. While the Okavango Delta is home to relatively few large animals in comparison to other areas of Botswana, its clear waters and countless small islands are home to a variety of birds, plants, and smaller species of animals.

Nearby is Chobe National Park, a beautiful grassland reserve(隠o^) that has gained international fame for its large elephant population. Southeast of Chobe are Botswana's large Makgadikgadi salt pans, home to numbers of blue wildebeest, several antelope species, and those international lovers of salt pans, flamingos(a kind of birds).

Almost the entire remaining portion of the country is covered by the Kalahari Desert--a varied environment of sand and grassland. Although this area of Botswana is where few people live, it is one of the richest wildlife areas in all of Africa.

Botswana's two largest parks, the Central Kalahari Game reserve and Gemsbok National Park, are found in this region.

Botswana's climate can get rather cool, particularly during the dry winter months of June to August when night occasionally brings frost. The rainy summer months (December through March) are best avoided for those interested in enjoying the best game viewing conditions.

For almost 18 years, my mom has given time from her life to devote her care to my growth. She has ashed  36  clothes. She¨s planned doctors¨ appointments  37  all parts of the body, cut hair, taken icures, bought presents,  38  vacations and basically kept a small boy¨s life  39  smoothly.

When I was 12, I got into  40  arguments with my older and wiser parents. The   41  never led a any achievement for me, but I still took part. Many times strong feeling of anger caused tears  42  to in my eyes by the end of the quarrel with them.   43  , I¨d return to my room and stay for as long as my parents allowed. Then I¨d  44  a knock and hardly manage a weak, ^Come in. ̄ My mom, acting as a peacemaker,   45  slowly enter and sit next to me on the bed. I¨d again try to  46  what I had said was true,  47  this time less angrily. Then mom calmly, strictly and lovingly showed to me her voice of   48  . After that she¨d hug me and I¨d stop crying; all would be  49  in my family again.

Hugs will  50  be her trademark勃升: warm hugs for goodnights, good-byes and a thousand other such situations. ^You¨re never too old to  51  your mother. ̄ I¨ve heard those eight words since I came to the world. They ring true. For some reason, those words possess the unbelievable  52  to reduce anxiety, cool an angry head,   53  fears and put wrong things right.

Perhaps my mother, now worthy of the title ^Mom ̄ can  be an example to mothers everywhere. Being a mother is not so  54  . Any female has the ability to become one. The challenge isn¨t in becoming a ^mother ̄, but instead , a ^mom ̄. Mine does that quite  55  .
