In the months of December and January, China experienced some of the worst air pollution in its history. At times, Beijing’s Air Quality Index(AQI)was measured at 406. Any AQI reading over 150 is considered “unhealthy” and any reading over 300 is considered “hazardous.” In Shanghai, we had several days when the AQI neared 300. The PM2.5 readings were also high. PM2.5 refers to particulate (微粒的)matter smaller than 2.5 microns(微米) in diameter. These particles are small enough to get into the lungs and can cause cancer and other lung diseases.
China is now becoming acutely aware that the rush to development has come at a price and may be endangering the health of its citizens. This is something other countries have faced before. The U.K. used to be the most polluted country in the world. It wasn’t until London’s Big Smog of 1952 that people realized that air pollution was a real health hazard. Twelve thousand deaths were directly related to that “pea-souper(濃霧)” and it resulted in Parliament(英國議會)passing the Clean Air Act(《清潔空氣法案》)of 1956.
China will no doubt pass similar laws. It’s a choice between wealth and health. As Beijingers and Shanghainese coughed their way through December and January, the choice may have become easier to make.

【解析】
試題分析:這篇短文主要介紹了在十二月和一月的幾個月里,中國經歷了歷史上最嚴重的空氣污染。有時,北京的空氣質量指數(AQI)測量是406。在上海,有幾天接近300。任何超過150的讀數被認為是“不健康”,讀過300則被認為是“危險的”。中國現在越來越意識到急于發展代價是危害市民的健康。這是其他國家以前所面臨的中國也將通過法律來保護環境。
1.Any AQI reading over 150 is considered “unhealthy” and any reading over 300 is considered “hazardous.”,可知AQI讀數超過150是不健康的。因為廣州小于159,故選B。
2. thousand deaths were directly related to that “pea-souper(濃霧)” and it resulted in Parliament(英國議會)passing the Clean Air Act(《清潔空氣法案》)of 1956. 可知是因為十二萬人的死亡和濃霧有關,是英國議會通過了清潔空氣法案。故選A。
3.細節理解題。PM2.5 refers to particulate (微粒的)matter smaller than 2.5 microns(微米) in diameter. These particles are small enough to get into the lungs and can cause cancer and other lung diseases.可知PM2.5可能會導致癌癥或肺部疾病,故選B。
4.詞義猜測題。根據第四段根據Any AQI reading over 150 is considered “unhealthy” and any reading over 300 is considered “hazardous.”可知AQI讀數超過150是不健康的那么超過300則是危險的,故選B。
5.最后一段可知人們認識到了空氣污染是健康的危害。所以人們會在健康和財富中作出正確的選擇,故選C。

Youth, friendship and love are the main themes of this year’s Chinese movies, such as So Young(《致青春》) and American Dreams in China(《中國合伙人》). Tiny Times(《小時代》), one of the most popular movies this summer, also has the same features.
The movie was based on author and director Guo Jingming’s novel of the same name. It tells a story about four girls who come from different backgrounds and of different personalities. Since it was shown on June 27, Tiny Times has made 483 million yuan at the box office. The sequel(續集) of it was shown on Aug 8 and it has also been a big box office hit.

Song Kexin, 14, a high school student at Zhida Middle School in Taiyuan, Shanxi, shows a typical example of a fan’s attitude(態度). And that’s to look for the positive value. “That movie is a little far from our daily life. My friends and I are not having parties every day,” Song said, “But I admire Tang Wanru’s optimistic attitude(樂觀態度). She’s always looking at the bright side of life. I should learn from her.”
