Yesterday was my 18th birthday. As Father and Mother thought it was a big occasion for me，they suggested I hold a birthday party at home to celebrate it. For several days they had been busy preparing for this. By 4 o’clock I was pleased to see all my friends had come. Mother cooked us a big meal.
We ate and talked happily. The most exciting moment was when Mother put a big birthday cake on the table and all my friends began to sing HappyBirthday. Seeing the 18 candles burning，I couldn’t keep back my tears. Mother asked me to make a wish before I blew out all the candles. After that，everyone enjoyed the sweet birthday cake and shared my happiness.
I am eighteen years old now，which means I’ve become an adult and have more responsibilities .I’ll do my best to return my parents’ love and live up to their expectations.

THE LION AND THE MOUSE
When a lion was asleep, a little mouse began running up and down beside him, which made some noise. This soon wakened the lion. Losing his temper, he caught the mouse in his paws and was about to kill it. The mouse, terrified, pleaded to the lion to spare its life.
"Please let me go," it cried, "and one day I will repay you for your kindness." The idea of so small a creature ever being able to do anything for him amused the lion so much that he laughed aloud. He thought, “How could this little mouse help me?” However, he lifted his paws and let it go.
But the mouse's chance came after all. A few days later, when the lion was wandering in the forest, he was caught in a trap.
The hunters wanted to take him alive to the king, so he tied him to a tree, and went away to look for a wagon.
Just then the little mouse passed by, and saw the sad lion. It went up to him and soon gnawed away(啃斷) the ropes. “Was I right?” asked the little mouse. This lion nodded his head and thanked the little mouse.

One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity（人性）as a whole. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.
